VOGELFREI Media & Information is a platform for research and interdisciplinary media that investigates urban and peri-urban conditions through the production of spatial research.
It produces work that is theoretically grounded, artistically ambitious, and intellectually independent. In this it produces filmmaking, archival research, mapping, and design to build a layered record of a place, rather than a single narrative.
It is interested in understanding how places change — urbanization, migration, industry, and cultural shift — and what that change means for the people who live through it.
VOGELFREI is a collective working across disciplines — documentary production, spatial and social research, and design. We are not a traditional research institute or production company, but an interdisciplinary research platform working at the intersection media and information.
Meet the foundersThe forces that reshape a place — development, policy, climate, capital — usually move slowly enough that they're invisible day to day, and fast enough that by the time they're visible, the change is already irreversible.
We believe visual media and spatial research, used together, can make that kind of change legible while it's still happening — while there's still time for the people affected by it to be seen, heard, and represented in how their own story is told.
